How to choose the right curtain rod

What size curtain rod do I need?

Measure your window width and add 8 to 12 inches on each side so curtains stack off the glass when open and let in full light. Mount the rod 4 to 6 inches above the frame, or higher near the ceiling to make the window and room feel taller. For a wide window, choose a double or centre-supported curtain rod to prevent sagging.

What type of curtain rod should I choose?

Match the rod to the curtain weight and look. For most panels, use a standard single rod. To layer sheers behind heavier curtains on one window, choose a double curtain rod. Bouclair's rods and pole sets come in metal and acrylic-and-metal builds, finished in brushed nickel, black, gold, silver, and bronze to coordinate with your hardware.

What finish should the rod and finials be?

Echo the metals already in the room. Choose brushed nickel or silver for a modern, cool look, black for a versatile contemporary edge, or gold and bronze for warmth and a classic note. Pick your finials, the decorative ends, to set the tone, from simple caps to more detailed shapes.

How do I install and layer with a rod?

Anchor the brackets into studs or use wall anchors for heavier panels, and add a centre bracket on spans over 60 inches. To layer, run a double rod with a sheer in front of a curtain or blackout panel. For a coordinated window in one step, shop a curated collection with the rod and panels already paired.
