Paulina Bereza

Within my art practice, I explore my identity as a Polish-Canadian immigrant through hybrid craft techniques. While honouring my heritage, I recontextualize rural craft practices in order to investigate concepts of displacement, time, origins, and privacy within contemporary societies. My practice includes weaving, as well as hand-building with clay, concrete and steel. The inherent qualities of matter inform my work, rooting through a decolonized approach to the history of arts & crafts. Considering time in a non-linear way, I attempt to transcend the past and the future in order to explore the choices of the present.

Paulina Bereza is a Polish born, Montreal based fibre artist and designer. She is currently enrolled at Concordia University, in her final year as a Major in Fibre and Material practices. Her main concerns lie within topics of immigration, displacement and memory. The inherent qualities of matter are at the centerfold of her woven and sculptural works.
